Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says he is the victim of 'obscene' vandalism after one of his election corflutes was graffitied with a swastika.

The Jewish MP for Kooyong shared a picture of a vandalised election poster on Monday.

'It doesn't matter which political group is on the receiving end, it's just not on. Our community deserves better,' he said.

'Swastikas are a reminder of a dark past and it's our collective duty to say 'never again'.'

Late last year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told Parliament Mr Frydenberg still requires 24/7 protection because of anti-semitic threats against him.

Mr Frydenberg was bombarded with a series of racist threats during the first round of Covid lockdowns.

Frydenberg's mother was a Jewish Hungarian who survived the Holocaust and emigrated to Australia in 1950. His father was also Jewish, arriving Down Under from Poland.

Mr Frydenberg, who was born in Melbourne, has previously warned 'antisemitism is on the rise, not just here but around the world.'

Frydenberg is currently under 24/7 security protection because of threats against him due to his Jewish faith, the prime minister said last year

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, said: 'This is not Nazi Germany, and this escalating virus of antisemitism and bigotry has to stop.

'Another day, another sickening and abhorrent outburst of neo-Nazi vandalism, and if this hate spree continues, Melbourne will soon be known as the swastika capital of Australia.'

Dr Abramovich said the intention of those who carried out the attack was to intimidate and frighten, and called on people from all walks of religion and politics to condemn the vandalism.
